Rockstar 2007: Partridge Family? Monkees? Beatles?
At the very end of the very disappointing Rockstar Supernova finale, host Brooke Burke mentioned something about details for next year’s Supernova being online at the Rockstar website. I’ve been checking regularly on the site - which has horrible navigation because of being all Flash-based - but have yet to find anything.
I’ve been racking my brain for who might be the band, and have yet to come up with anything, except maybe KISS. But Gene Simmons is busy with his Gene Simmons Family Jewels TV show. Could it be another washed-out bunch from the 80s, say an all-girl band? (I’m not saying I didn’t like INXS nor any of the bands the Supernova boys were in.) Well, tired of waiting for details, I did a bit of searching on Google and found some discussions on a few websites and online forums.
But me, I think it’ll be ROCKSTAR: Partridge Family. Or maybe ROCKSTAR: The Go-Gos. No wait ROCKSTAR: Cyndi Lauper. Okay, enough of that. Although what I really fear is ROCKSTAR: The Cult. Who do I really want to see? Seriously? Maybe Rage Against The Machine - but how ironic would that be? What a sell out. Or Faith No More, Jane’s Addiction, Living Color, Concrete Blonde, The Pixies (unless they already reformed), and a few more bands from the late 80s early 90s. Enough 80s bands. Which is why I don’t think it’ll be Van Halen (amongst other reasons). It’s going to be a tough call. But my vote is for Concrete Blonde. And maybe Dilana can front it, if Johnette Napolitano won’t. [See end of post and above for suitable YouTube videos.] (Or they could go the other way and go 1960s or 1970s - Deep Purple, Black Sabbath.)
For anyone that actually intends to watch next summer 2007, let’s hope it’s something good - a quality band. And that someone who is NOT from Toronto wins (despite my three fave cities being Toronto, Montreal and Atlanta). By the way, my guess is that they’ll probably start selecting entrants in another month or two, even if they don’t have a band lined up. They’ve got to weed out the no-talents, regardless of the band choice.

Anyone know if Rockstar Supernova will have a DVD set from the season? Cant find anything about it. Nickiinaz@hotmail… Thanks

Hi Nicki,
I haven’t heard anything about it. Did they do that for the previous season? You can view full episodes of Supernova and Inside the Mansion at rockstar.msn.com, but you need to use the Microsoft Explorer web browser.
The might release a DVD set just before Xmas, though you think they’d have announced it already.

fuck that shit.
Nirvana and I’m winning!

So what if another toronto person wins…Then everybody else should just step up and take over the crown and stop trying to be a poser and do what they are there for ..and that is to sing !!! Just a thought

Hey jon, from my days of interviewing bands in Toronto (but from all over the world), I found that many bands just love Toronto. So it’s not surprising that two winners have been from there. So everyone should just move to Toronto before competing in the next Rockstar

Hey raj Dash
I am a studio singer that has worked in norway
holland and locations through out canada and the US and you are so correct. It is a wonderful city and maybe ..just maybe,Canada is about more than hockey and abad politicians (LOL)
Take care bros.
P.s I am looking forward to the next competition to apply…any thoughts on who? I am thinking Blind mellon.. Alice in chains.. but it still needs to be radio friendly
Cheers

Yeah, I can’t wait to hear. Obviously, a lot of people want Nirvana, but that would be some big shoes to fill.

Didn’t like INXS, “disappointing year” last year, but already looking forward to next season, and has a winner picked, Dilana! LOL
March 29th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
Yeah, but how can you compare to Michael Hutchence? I can’t imagine any version of INXs sounding good without him. In fact, any reformed band will have a missing member, and it’ll be hard for any new performer to fill their shoes. At least with Supernova, the band has never existed before.

I can’t wait for the announcement of the next Rockstar. I am DEFINITELY going to audition (and I live near TORONTO)
I am a female lead singer for a Classic Rock band called “The Ticket” in Belleville, Ont.
I belt out tunes by Van Halen, Heart, Deep Purple, Ozzy, Zep, many many more, with LOTS OF HEART. It’s all me, naturally. I wanna chance!!
April 4th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
Good luck, Vera. I’ll watch and root for you
Are there auditions in Toronto? If I was younger, I might do it myself. I at least have the Rob Zombie hair and goatee

It would be interesting to see a band from the 70’s era but i am still thinking van halen as now it is eddie and alex and eddie’s son on bass so maybe they will look for a new direction. Cheers to you vera if you go and maybe we will see you at the horseshoe.
cheers to all

@jon: Yeah, you think Van Halen? Well, as long as it’s not Van Hagar. Eddie + David rock!!
By Horseshoe, I guess you mean Toronto? Man, I miss that place. I gotta move back to Toronto very soon.

Thanks for the support, Raj Dash and Jon. I hope it’s Van Halen. I love their style. It would be a dream come true to be a part of that band!! I love Eddie’s style, and what a great move when they added Sammy Hagar. Hopefully singer #3 is ME!!! I think they’d approve. Those guys must rock better than ever as it always improves with time!! I can taste it now!!!
Yes, the Horseshoe is in Toronto. That’s where the auditions were last time (I wasn’t on the ball so I missed out), but I’m checking this forum regulary. Hope I get in this time!!
You aint heard the end of me yet. This will be my call for sure!!! I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!:)

@Vera: Your voice definitely sounds like it’d be a nice match for Van Halen. (I think you’d do fine going solo as well. I love the texture of your voice.) But you’d liked Sammy Hagar? Sorry, can’t say I liked Van Hagar.
Good luck. If you’re on this season, I’ll root for you. Man, I haven’t been to the Horseshoe in so long I can’t remember when.

Guess What!! I’m on cloud 9!! I just booked my band, The Ticket, at THE HORSESHOE TAVERN in Toronto. MONDAY, JUNE 18/07 at 10:30 pm. We play for an hour - all original material. My big break in TORONTO!!! You guys shoult try to make it out.
Thanks Raj Dash for commenting on my voice. You help me keep on!! I like Sammy’s voice in the band “Montrose” you ever heard it? I can sing a wicked “David Lee Roth” only female, of course…..
April 17th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
@Vera: Congrats! Very nice. I had planned to move back to Toronto by June 1st, except it’s unlikely to happen. And I don’t have a car anymore, so a late-night show on a Monday isn’t easy to get to. But if I do get moved up before then, I’ll come see you. Or maybe when you play Toronto again
No, I don’t think I’ve heard Montrose. I’ve heard Montreux (sp?) by Deep Purple, but I don’t think they’re the same.
April 17th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Raj - where are you from?
April 17th, 2007 at 4:24 pm
@Vera - I consider Toronto my Canadian hometown and have lived there on and off, but I grew up mostly in Guelph.

Is there going to be a Rockstar this summer? I can’t find anything online about it.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:44 pm
Official: The show was officially cancelled in Mar 2007. I only found out about it a few weeks ago.
